With Thanksgiving and Christmas not too far away, November is a time for food and eating with family. Here are a couple of idioms based on food:

1. “A piece of cake” |
Meaning:
A job or activity which is easy.
Example:
“Painting the wall was a piece of cake.” |
2. “Take with a pinch of salt” |
Meaning:
To not take what someone says too seriously.
Example:
“Take my advice with a pinch of salt.” |
3.“Taste of your own medicine” |
Meaning:
Means that something happens to you, or is done to you, that you have done to someone else.
Example:
“It is a taste of his own medicine. He really should not have done that, so he is getting what he deserves.” |
4. “Cry over spilt milk” |
Meaning:
When you complain about something that has happened in the past. Often meaning that you should move on from (not dwell on) something.
Example:
“Come on, there is no point crying over spilt milk. Time to move on.” |
5. “Bite off more than you can chew” |
Meaning:
You have started to undertake a project which is too difficult for you to finish
Example:
“From the looks of it, he has bitten off more than he can chew.”
