Idioms for May

Idioms are used everyday in English. We use them to describe how we feel, what we want to do, or what we think. There are many idioms that have special meanings about jokes and fooling people since there are many ways that you can play tricks. April 1st is a great day to play tricks on people. Lets look at some of the idioms used on that day!

1. “pull a prank”

Meaning:
To play a trick or a prank on someone to make them laugh or upset.
Example:
“Watch this, I’m going to pull a prank on my sister.”

2. “make a fool of someone”

Meaning:
To make someone look stupid or silly.
Example:
“She made a fool of me by telling me there were bugs in my hair.”

3.“crack up”

Meaning:
To laugh suddenly and very loudly.
Example:
“At first I was upset about his prank, but then I began to crack up.”

4. “go too far”

Meaning:
To take a joke or prank to an extreme that may really upset someone.
Example:
“I know he wants to be funny, but his last prank went too far.”

5. “cross the line”

Meaning:
To do something that seriously upsets or offends someone in a way that is not funny.
Example:
“Her joke was not funny and really crossed a line with the people at the party.”
